Dr. Gretchen Henson decided to become a dentist by the time she was 5 years old.  She began her dental career by taking top honor as the “Dental Expert” in her 4th grade class and started working as a dental assistant for her pediatric dentist at age 15.

After graduating from the University of Arizona with a BS degree in Public Health & Chemistry, she immediately went on to the University of Colorado for dental school.  Her dental degree (DDS) included 1 year post-doctoral training included rotations in pediatrics, rural health care, geriatric care, and HIV/AIDS patients.

After more than a decade in private practice, Dr. Gretchen made the decision to return to school full-time.  She completed her specialty degree in Pediatric Dentistry at NYU-Langone Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York.  In addition to her training at the hospital and in the operating room, she taught undergraduates dental students at New York University.  Dr. Gretchen has extensive experience treating patients with special needs including Sensory Perceptive Disorders, PDD-NOS, Autism and ADHD.

Dr. Gretchen has taken both written and oral certifying exams and is a Board Certified Diplomate with the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.


Dr. Gretchen served on the advisory council for the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, offering her input for their Access Program for families of children with special needs.  She is a Voluntary Emergency Medical Practitioner in The New York Medical Reserve Corps.  Dr. Gretchen is a member of the New York City Children’s Dental Health Committee.  She was the Co-Director of a dental clinic for the homeless, a regular volunteer for Head Start, Special Olympics and Give Kids a Smile Day.  Dr. Gretchen has also presented nationally for the ADA, Healthcare for the Homeless, and has served as Adjunct Faculty to the Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health since its inception.

She enjoys running around downtown with her two rescue dogs and participating in community events.  She has one son who has Autism.
